[DIY] Long Fringe Top

I LOVE DIY PROJECTS!! My style is ever-changing, so DIY projects allow me to manipulate and re-purpose old garments! DIYs save money, give your style some individuality, and are fun! the possibilities are endless, so there will be MANY DIYs to come!

Want to learn how to achieve the above look? Read on...

  • long dress [with or without sleeves; preferably cotton/jersey fabric]
  • scissors [sharp; dull scissors will create ragged edges]
  • marker [safe for fabric; stay away from permanent, it bleeds thru]
DIRECTIONS

1.  FLIP your dress inside out so that markings can be made on the inside and so that tassels can curl inward ...

2.  MARK where you want your fringing to start. If you want a cropped look, mark a few inches under bust area; if you dont want it cropped, mark at belly button or below. Tip: put dress on (inside out) to ensure accurate marking)

3.  CUT 1 inch wide strips from bottom to top. Tip: Pay attention to the direction you are cutting in, the scissors tend to slant diagonally; a diagonal cut will ruin the fringing (unless intentional).
Tip: cut inch wide snips all along bottom before proceeding upward; the snips will work as a guide.
4.  PULL strips taught. When you have completed your strippin' pull each piece until fabric curls up, then TIE a knot at the end!
Tip: You dont want to pull too hard or you'll snap your strip. Pinch at the base with one hand and use the other to pull taught ..
Tip: There might be some extra fabric sticking out of your fringes (from jagged cutting) just snip those for a neater look ...
FINISHED!!
